Film Recommendation: The Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption (1994) is the first of my film recommendations. I use the word "recommendations" because I will not simply review films, but rather I will only recommend them. I am a movie nut and will begin with movies I actually own in my collection-- I am frugal, so not everything gets in to my collection.
The movie is set in a prison in Maine from the 1940's to the 1960's. It has a male cast of well developed characters headed up by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The storyline follows the derailed life of Andy Dufresne, a wrongly convicted man. Over the years he discovers his faults, develops new strengths, and maintains hope-- even in his darkest hours.
This movie is well written (based on a Stephen King story), acted, and cast. However, The Shawshank Redemption isn't for the kids in that it contains adult content and language, it is rated R. The movie is about 2.5 hours long.
I highly recommend viewing it and I actually own it in my personal collection.
