Words of Wisdom: Albert Einstein (Part II)
Albert Einstein was a German born, American physicist. He is famous for the formula E = mc2 and is typically who people think of when they think of a "Genius". Here are a few of his thoughts:
- I never teach my pupils. I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn
- The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits
- I never think of the future - it comes soon enough
- Laws alone can not secure freedom of expression; in order that every man present his views without penalty there must be spirit of tolerance in the entire population
- Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former
- Reading, after a certain age, diverts the mind too much from its creative pursuits. Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking
- The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity
- A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new
- The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources
- When you look at yourself from a universal standpoint, something inside always reminds or informs you that there are bigger and better things to worry about.
- It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education
- Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school
- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough
- Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere
- Once we accept our limits, we go beyond them
- People love chopping wood. In this activity one immediately sees results
- Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing
- If you are out to describe the truth, leave elegance to the tailor
- The only source of knowledge is experience
