The Cynical Optimist

While I tend to be optimist, I am also very cynical.  I can't help it-- it's just me.  I tend not to have much faith in many people, but I try to give them the benefit of the doubt in the hope that they will prove me wrong.

If you read my posts and the many comments I leave at other sites you will find the following themes running through my ideas:

  • People are creatures of habit and don't like change-- Even if the change is good for them
  • People will usually take the easy way out, because most are lazy-- Convenience is expensive
  • People tend to follow the crowd and don't like to think for themselves-- The Jones family lives everywhere
  • People pretend to be one thing, when in fact they are really something else-- Think about the "Greens" driving oversized trucks called Sports Utility Vehicles
  • People are easily fooled and lied to-- Look at who they elect to office
  • People allow their greedy desires to cloud their better judgment-- Look at all the people who lost money in the market and to swindlers

All that aside, I do have the firm belief that people can:

  • Change
  • Improve themselves
  • Learn to help themselves
  • Make smart decisions when they have the right information
  • Be honest to themselves and others
  • Learn to do anything they put their minds to
  • Get ahead despite seemly insurmountable obstacles

The key is knowledge, desire, hard work . . . and at times, a shock to the system.  A good swift kick in the  . . . teeth-- usually gets people going.  Learn grow, and change!  Start today.

I am still cynical, but I am very optimist that I can be proved wrong . . .
