My 401(k) is Up 29% YTD-- How About Yours?
As of yesterday, my 401(k) investment portfolio was up 28.6% year-to-date. You may recall back in September I posted, Market Meltdown Today? and in October I posted, The Time to Invest . . . is Now!, it clearly explained my plans at the time. I am not trying to show off, but apparently, my strategy has been working.
While I watch the market, I don't check my long-term investments very often-- usually quarterly. I try to be disciplined with a simple long-term strategy.
So what was/am I in?
- Fixed income
- 7% Fixed income 3.4% return (Normally, I don't have much fixed income in my portfolio)
- Large Cap Equity
- 15% Common stock index 27.1% return
- 15% Equity fund 31.1% return
- 17% Value equity fund 26.2% return
- Small Cap Equity
- 15% Blended Small Co Stock 28.0% return
- 15% Small Co Stock 31.7% return
- International Equity
- 3% International equity 29.4% return
- 4% Emerging markets equity 63.6% return
- Company stock
- 9% Company stock 38.7% return (Normally, I don't carry much company stock-- but my analysis was that my company stock price was dragged down purely by association-- looks like I was right)
WARNING: This is my strategy, not a recommendation. I plan to adjust it soon-- a bit more aggressive. My advice is don't just try to copy it, because it may not work for you or be right for you.
