Frugal Tips for the Beach

Having just returned from the beach, my wife and I reviewed a few simple ways we saved and kept it frugal:

  • Stick to the reason for being at the beach-- the water and fishing.  Other activities drain your wallet
  • Bring your own food and drink from home-- everything is more expensive in the locale
  • Have activities for down times-- books and cards help if it rains (we got lucky -- rain in the middle of the night on one night)
  • Travel at odd times-- we left at 4:30 AM to avoid traffic, save gas, and maximize beach time
  • Fully use the resources of the rental-- kitchen, laundry, bikes, fishing gear

A few simple steps can keep a nice trip low cost . . .
