Getting Back in the Fitness Groove
I've been in a rut-- I plateaued in my weight and have not been as fit as I can be. Mrs. DDFD on the other hand, has been tearing it up with diet and aerobics.
I quit soda just before Thanksgiving and I am still going strong (The Great Soda Challenge Continues (Latest Update)), but for me it is diet and exercise that does the trick. Well, if you had followed me on Twitter, you would know that I logged three, three mile walks this weekend.
It took an hour each time, so I very consistently managed three miles per hour. The usual blisters are forming on my feet like always when I get back into walking than jogging, so I know I am off to a good start. That stops after two weeks.
Why the sudden charge? Frugality and pride!
- Health-- it could cost me money-- especially later in life (Staying Healthy is Frugal-- Some Tips)
- Wealth-- it impacts your career and business prospects and rewards
- Mrs DDFD-- I can't be out done . . . we are talking pride here
- The kids-- I need to keep up with them . . . again, we are talking pride here
The last one hit me about three months ago when we went on a hike with a serious grade, 30 degrees, that nearly wasted me (A Short Hike Into the Woods). In the past, it was no problem. We get out and hike small, short trails about once a month. My son keeps asking about a 10 mile hike we used to do along some greenways trails. I plan on being ready to take them this weekend-- they will be surprised, but I will be the one that is ready if I get out each day this week.
I plan to get out five times a week at a minimum. I also like doing doubles on the weekends. Years ago, I used to do five miles everyday and twice on weekends-- it worked. Three miles should have a similar impact, but with slightly slower results. We will see how it goes . . .
