Frugal Dating
Dating can be expensive. I have heard many stories of the courtship expenses coming into a marriage as a load of debt.
Dating also shouldn't end with marriage-- if anything it should increase, but dating in a marriage doesn't have to be expensive. There are many activities that you can do with your partner for little or no money.
Here is a reminder of some ideas for the coming weekend-- plan ahead now:
- Cooking a meal at home-- make it special (Surf and Turf?)
- Cheap movies-- at home or at a discount theater (they are around if you look for them)
- Hiking or biking-- exercise can do all of us some good
- Beach or lake-- free (except parking perhaps) and don't forget to pack a meal and bottle of wine
- Museum-- usually an optional donation
- Lunch-- if you are going to have a meal out, then make it lunch because it is cheaper than dinner

I've never heard of this, but then, I live my life quite different from others. It seems to me if debt is one of the results of courtship, then the whole courtship thing isn't being handled well. And, it should be a red flag waving right there in your face.
I know there are blinders and blindfolds that we all wear - I once wore one too - but we need to get smarter about such things that are so very important. Marriage is a legal estate, and the whole idea of dragging debt into it just doesn't make sense to me.

I have even heard of the engagement ring debt coming into the marriage . . . buy what you can afford, not finance!
