How to Become a Millionaire

Everyone wants to be a millionaire . . . ten of these and you've got it (they're actually illegal for private citizens to possess). The picture above is that of a $100,000 gold certificate. According to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the $100,000 Gold Certificate was used only for official transactions between Federal Reserve Banks and was not circulated among the general public.
There are many ways to become a millionaire, here is a short list:
- Be born into it-- pure luck of the draw
- Marry into it-- they say you earn every penny
- Win the lottery-- better chance of being struck by lightening
- Be a celebrity-- might end up waiting tables
- Be an athlete-- don't bet on it
- Steal it-- like small spaces with bars?
- Earn it-- over an entire lifetime
- Start saving and investing-- from the cradle
- Counterfeit it-- did I mention small spaces with bars?
- Be a business owner . . .
The last one is a powerful one. Every year I hear that the majority of Americans reporting million dollar incomes on their taxes are business owners. I read the books that tell me that the small business owner is usually the millionaire living on my street.
That said, I ask myself what business opportunities should I consider. Here are some posts about this topic:

My thought-- don't quit the day job, but start working on a business solution to supplement or replace that job.

Earning it over a lifetime is not so farfetched nowadays. Lots of people get a hundred thousand a year. If you could discipline yourself to live on half of that and save the other 50 grand, you’d reach a million in 20 years, even without interest.
If you invested it at a mere 5% interest, compounded, you would reach a million in slightly over 14 years.
