Vegetable Garden Update

Over the recent holiday weekend, I completed what I call my "in-ground" vegetable garden (One of my favorite frugal, DIY money saving projects).
Here is what I got done:

  • Re-weeded
  • Re-turned soil
  • Created mounds and walkways
  • Planted seeds (With the help of my daughter following these instructions)
    • Dig hole of about four inches
    • Spoonful of plant food
    • Soil cover about two inches
    • Water
    • Seed
    • Soil cover about one inch
    • Water again

I felt I was late this year-- normally I start seeds indoors and I usually plant in-ground in early May, but we did have some close calls on the frosts even a week ago.  I have also noticed many of the farms around here planted this past weekend as well.

My container garden (Started weeks ago with hearty veggies) is moving along nicely-- expect fresh leaf lettuce this weekend.

My feeling is that my daughter now knows how to plant her own vegetable seeds now-- she will probably remember how we did it from this shared gardening experience (A true lesson learned).  I will provide some photo updates over the coming weeks.

How is your garden going?
