Words of Wisdom: Thomas Jefferson on Freedom

Thomas Jefferson was the third President of the US, a founding father, main author of the Declaration of Independence, horticulturist, statesman, architect, archaeologist, inventor, and founder of the University of Virginia. Here are some of his thoughts on freedom:
- No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms
- For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security
- If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be
- Every citizen should be a soldier. This was the case with the Greeks and Romans, and must be that of every free state
- Our greatest happiness does not depend on the condition of life in which chance has placed us, but is always the result of a good conscience, good health, occupation, and freedom in all just pursuits
