DIY: Green and Frugal "Pesticide"

Now that my garden is moving along, I have to start dealing with garden pests.
Here is my green and frugal recipe for a spray (It's cheap and easy too).

Here's what you need:

  • Chopped garlic clove
  • Chopped quarter onion
  • Chopped hot peppers
  • 1 tablespoon of dish detergent
  • 1 gallon of water

Here's what to do:

  • Mix in a spray bottle-- that's it!

I spray on the plants and have used it directly on slugs.

Happy planting!

I use an old blender to puree a mixture of water, onions, garlic and cayenne pepper, then strain the mixture into a pump sprayer and add a little mild liquid soap. The soap cuts the surface tension and the onion and pepper mixture kills aphids on contact, and cripples the hard shell bugs too.

Just be careful when spraying because it can be quite a lung and eye irritant. Also, straining is necessary to prevent the sprayer from clogging.
