I thought I would review some of my DIY projects and their respective savings from the past year. Here they are:

Preparing my own firewood $550 on chords of wood and $500-800 on offset home heating oil (The Four Key Ways We Save on Heating Bills)

Chimney sweeps (three times) $450 (Firewood Season Coming to a Close . . .)

Oil changes $10 each time (Mostly on getting better quality materials for less)

Valve cover gaskets changed $250 (DIY Auto Savings . . .)

Brake job $200+

Spark plugs, wires, and coils changed $150

Flat fix $10

Auto AC recharge $100

Car washes $200 (The Lazy Man's Car Wash)

Washing machine water pressure hose clog cleaning $200-300

Ironing my own shirts $500 (Iron Your Own Shirts and Polish Your Own Shoes)

Vegetable garden $200+ (Spring is Here: A Gardening Recap (Part II))

Dump runs twice a month $500

As you can see, just from the ones I can remember, we saved a few thousand dollars for a few hours of effort on my part (What to Do if You Are Short Cash, But Long Time and Effort . . .)-- don't forget that these are after-tax dollars saved (How to Legally Beat Taxes . . .).
