How to Be Interesting

Want to be interesting?  Here is some simple advice.  Start by being interested:

  • Learn new things (Ever do a DIY project?)
  • Read books, magazines, and the internet
  • Watch educational TV instead of reality TV (I know the Playboy bunnies are interesting to look at, but what if you had facts about snowshoe hares?)
  • Try new things (Ever had turtle soup?)
  • Go to new places (Every gone hiking?)
  • Strike a conversation with a stranger in line or engaged in an activity you both seem to enjoy (I almost always talk to people I see fishing)
  • Try adult education or a seminar
  • Ask people questions about them (Usually their favorite topic)
  • Say people's names as you talk to them (It's their favorite word)

You never know where a conversation can go . . .

Great list. I do just about everything on it.

    - Right now my big DIY project is blogging.
    - It's rare for a day to go by where I don't read, listen to or watch something educational.
    - I'll try pretty much anything so long as I don't think it's harmful.
    - I've seen more of the surrounding area in the last few years than some of the locals have in their whole life.

I'm not sure if it makes me interesting per say but it does make me the go to person whenever anyone has a question about anything.

I don't do any of this because I want to be interesting. I do it because it makes me happy.

My favorite story as it relates to the things you listed involves one time when I was taking a community education class on wildflower identification and then found myself talking to a lady there about various Teaching Company courses.
