Words of Wisdom: Henry David Thoreau on Simplicity
Henry David Thoreau was an American author, poet, naturalist, and philosopher. Here are some of his thoughts on simplicity:
- Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify
- That man is the richest whose pleasures are the cheapest
- In wildness is the preservation of the world
- The cost of a thing is the amount of what I call life which is required to be exchanged for it, immediately or in the long run
- Our houses are such unwieldy property that we are often imprisoned rather than housed in them
- Water is the only drink for a wise man
- Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler
