Vegetable Garden Expansion and Preparation Day

I had a busy day today, my daughter and I expanded the in-ground garden by 33% spending a few hours doing so.  A frugal activity for the two of us to share-- simple living at its best.  My daughter removed the leaves and old stakes.  We re-fenced the garden and tilled the soil. Finally, I spread four bags of cow manure compost over the area.

Tomorrow, we will set up and expand (by about 33% as well) the container garden fencing.  We plan to make the soil and put it into the containers.  I also plan on more containers positioned in different places around the property.

Planting is a few weeks away, with the exception of some mini "greenhouses" (plastic containers in clear plastic bags).  Planting will also require a few hours of work, but after that it is simple maintenance work . . . outside of watering and picking-- it is pretty much set it and forget it.

Last week, I fenced in two of my three compost piles and emptied last year's container's soil on top of these piles so I can plant on these spots.  I plan on starting a new, second compost pile in the next week or two.

Similar activities this weekend. On Saturday my neighbor called to inform me that there was no wind and this would be a good day to come get his horse manure. The Dude and I went over for a cup of coffee, and we came back with a dump truck full of good organic matter.

Now, I just have to get a few things out of the way so I can back into the open garden area, dump, spread, roto-till and re-establish the raised beds for this year's open sun garden.

We're starting our second batch of seedling too. Those will go in the greenhouses. We're excited about the veggies to come.
