DIY Auto Savings . . .
Just a quick one-- on some decent DIY auto savings . . .
Over the weekend, I saved myself a small fortune by doing some simple, but time consuming repairs. I replaced five light bulbs on my car:
- Left headlight
- Front side position light
- Rear running light
- Two license plate lights
I spent just over an hour, using a screw driver, and parts purchased at a discount store. My estimate is I saved over $100 between the labor and part's markups.
Additionally, I checked filters and topped off fluids in both vehicles and spent another 40 minutes washing both vehicles . . . another savings.

I had a plumber come out today and install a gas stove. I’m willing to work on water pipes because you can see it squirting out if the pipe is not tight; but I’m reluctant to do gas. With gas you can’t see the leaks, and they are flammable! However, I had already figured out the routing for the gas line, and had everything moved out of the way that needed to be. And I prepared the space by installing an electric outlet for the igniter. That is, I tried to do whatever I didn’t need him to do for me.
While some normally hidden spaces were open, I painted them.

What you say here is good, but last week I needed new spark plugs. It's a V6 with the engine mounted sideways; three of the plugs are squeezed between the block and the firewall . . .
I had a shop do it.
