Being in a Better Place . . .

Anytime I feel down on the situation my wife (Be Careful in Choosing Your Life Partner . . . ) and I are in (we are still recovering from a layoff (You've Been Laid Off . . . Now What?) a few years ago on top of the on-going difficulties faced by being divorced), I try to remind myself that we are in a better place than we were last year at this time.  I further remind myself that the way things are going, we will be in an even better place this time next year.

I try to remind myself and my wife of the improvements that we tend to forget-- bills paid, a car paid off,  rising income, etc.  Yes, we still have a way to go, and we still take hits left and right, but it is getting better and we are building momentum.  We are also stronger and more capable than we were last year.  I also try to remind her that if she looks around at others, we are well positioned to deal with economic tough times, and that we will spring back faster and stronger than most people around us (Manage Your Expectations . . . ).

It is definitely slow going (slower than I ever imagined, Progress Over Perfection), but I feel and see the difference . . . I know in my heart that we will finally pull ahead by next year.

Will we take more hits?  Sure, but I believe we are at the "pivot point" of our situation . . .

Anytime you feel overwhelmed, ask yourself if you are better off than you were a year ago and will you be better off a year from now?  If not, remember that nothing is beyond repair or improvement . . . (You've Got to Start Somewhere, So Chunk It!)

The name of the game is to never give up!

Things are rarely if ever as bad as we might make them out to be, and we can always find someone in tougher shape. If you stop to consider what you are thankful for, the list is basically endless.

Your attitude is right on track - establish goals and priorities, create a plan around those priorities, and work the plan and improve the plan along the way. You'll get there soon enough.

Remember, the "getting there" is really most of the fun of any trip. Look at how many people have "arrived" and they're still not happy with where they are.
