Quick Recipe Ideas: Jazzing Up Hot Dogs

Just a quick one-- it has been a while since we did a recipe post.  I figured I would talk about something the kids love for lunch or dinner-- hot dogs.  A quick, frugal meal.

I had a hot dog the other day as my lunch-- unusual for me.  I am not a big hot dog fan myself-- I usually have one, maybe one and one half.  I prefer the butcher made to the prepackaged.  I also prefer grilled best of all.

So how do I jazz up hot dogs?  Here are some quick ideas:

  • Mustard-- different styles make it fun
  • BBQ sauce
  • Sauerkraut-- I like fried
  • Onions-- raw or cooked (Vidalias are great)
  • Baked beans
  • Cheese-- different types are best for changing things up
  • Chili
  • Salsa
  • Relish

The kids use ketchup-- I say sacrilege!  But they like it.

What do you use?

I used to use ketchup, too, until the day I just had mustard and relish. I haven't gone back to ketchup since. It's my absolute favorite. Sometimes I like some grilled onions, too.
