Words of Wisdom: Dale Carnegie On Fear
Dale Carnegie was a writer and speaker on topics that included self improvement, positive attitude, public speaking, among other things. Below are some of my favorite thoughts he shared on fear:
- Do the thing you fear to do and keep on doing it… that is the quickest and surest way ever yet discovered to conquer fear
- Fear doesn't exist anywhere except in the mind
- Fear not those who argue but those who dodge
- First ask yourself: What is the worst that can happen? Then prepare to accept it. Then proceed to improve on the worst
- If you want to conquer fear, don’t sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy
- Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy
- Most of us have far more courage than we ever dreamed we possessed
- Take a chance! All life is a chance. The man who goes farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare
- The person who goes farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from shore
- You can conquer almost any fear if you will only make up your mind to do so. For remember, fear doesn't exist anywhere except in the mind

When we are children, we can become afraid of the dark. Even if it's just for a moment or only on occasion, we all had that fear in some form or another.
It was as if there was something there in the dark that wasn't there a moment before when the lights were on. It took me a while, but I finally figured out what the fear was all about.
We were afraid of being scared.
It's a fear of somehow being out of control, at least for a moment, so the idea of action (that manages the situation) versus worry (that makes you more like a victim of the situation) is absolutely the right approach. And, it's a good approach for just about any situation.

Nice comments-- thanks for sharing the childhood memories . . .
I am probably going to do a post on the fear of success-- I am very interested in learning why people sabotage themselves and the possible remedies to this tragedy.
