Depends.  I'm sure like me you hear and see these ads all the time lately.  If you really need cash and you view the gold or collectibles as clutter-- go for it.  Just realize you are probably going to get the short end of the stick.

Most likely you will be lucky to get 20-30% of the real value of your goods.  It's buy low, sell high in action.  Thinking of stamp and coin dealers-- they make their money by buying at 20-30% of catalogue value and selling the items at 80-100% net them a very tidy margin.  You would do better to sell it yourself . . .

The gold dealers are setting up all over.  I have even seen gold buying hotel suites advertised.  I feel bad for the people that are so desperate to fall victim to these opportunists.  I understand pawn shops are booming too.

My recommendation:  If you are going sell, shop around for the best deal and realize you are not going to get fair value or try to find a private buyer yourself . . .
