Saving Money in the Medicine Cabinet
Here's a quick money saving idea. A place to save big money is in the medicine cabinet.
You don't need brand names to get better-- you need active ingredients in the right concentrations. The brand doesn't cure you, the active ingredients do. I now buy the store brand in aspirin and other pain relievers, cough medicine, sinus medication, etc. If you want to save-- buy the drug store, supermarket, or Wal-Mart brand.
The savings run between 25-75% of the brand names . . . check out the labels. Remember, buy the active ingredients.

This is right on the money...so to speak. You're not buying medications for taste, texture or style - you're buying them because they work. And, only the active ingredient is what does the work. All my medicine cabinet items are generics.
Also, a big money saver in the area of medication is the $4 and $5 programs at Wal-mart and Kmart. I save about 90% on the cost of one medication.
If you are on a name brand medication, just ask your doctor for something comparable from one of the Wal-mart or Kmart programs noted above and you can save lots of money.
Call their pharmacies and tell them what you are taking, and they'll be glad to let you know if there is something comparable that you can get for the $4 or $5 a month cost. This will help you be better prepared to discuss the switch in medications with your doctor.

Thanks for adding the comments about generic prescriptions. Same deal-- big savings. I neglected them because I don't take any, knock on wood.
