How Do You Learn?

I love to learn.  Anyone who is driven to be more self-sufficient needs a love of learning to succeed.

The question that often comes up is how to learn something.  Here are some thoughts on learning:

  • Classroom-- Ideal if you are not as disciplined as you would like to be
  • Self-study- Requires a high degree of self-discipline
  • Doing-- The trial and error-- very effective to learn fast on the run

Studies have shown that learning occurs after seven exposures to new material-- be it reading, hearing, writing, doing, seeing, etc.  This makes sense because some people are verbal people and some are visual people.  Some people need to read it or be told how to do it.  Others are visual people, they learn by watching or by pictures.  Personally, I believe in mixed media.  I learn by verbal and visual means-- give me words and pictures.  Bottomline: Do what works for you, but learn, expand, and grow.  Knowledge is power.  Don't forget repetition is the mother of learning.
