Cold Cuts: Solid Gold

I like cold cuts once in a while, I just don't like the ridiculous prices they are charging lately . . . outrageous sums it up.

Turkey goes for almost $9 per pound unless you get lucky and get it on sale for $7 per pound.  It got me thinking, even expensive whole turkey breast is $1.49 per pound.  Are they really adding that much value to the cold cuts?  I know they add water to add weight . . . but come on!

How much value can I add by buying a turkey breast and throwing it in the oven for a couple of hours and slicing it myself?  I think I will be doing more of my own preps on this one going forward-- I just can't justify paying $9 for a pound of sliced turkey . . .

I like turkey legs. Some supermarkets sell these, usually in the range of $1.50. Some places even have them pre-cooked, but I usually do them in the crock pot.
