Blog Review: Frugal Dad

Frugal Dad is a blog with a father's perspective on frugality-- one that I share.  Additionally, Frugal Dad's work experience has given him first hand knowledge of the credit and bankcard industry.  His writing is solid and his posts are informative and well thought out.  I read the site daily and recommend it to anyone interested in frugal ideas and opinion.

My favorite posts from this site are:

The second post, on gardening, was how I discovered this blog some months ago.  The third post is probably my top choice of the three above-- I see and hear examples of this all the time (Recently, I was behind a guy in the grocery store who was using food stamps, but had a pack of cigarettes in his pocket and he smelled of beer-- go figure).

I am adding this site to my Blogroll.

I also like Frugal Dad. It is a solid site.

His observations (and yours) about the perpetually poor are right on target. A friend of mine in California observed one day that the "down and out" are lacking in many respects, but they always have cigarettes - a pure luxury. They have found a way to exist at a certain level, and for many reasons don't rise above it.

This might be a topic to expand on. Sometimes it helps to know where others are at (and why) in order to get a fresh perspective on where you are at (and why).

Many years ago while I was in college, I worked in a popular campus pizza joint.  I was good with numbers and cash, so I worked up front at the register and sometimes dealt with the townies (usually drunk) who came up to the hill and tried to buy pizzas with the works using food stamps.  I had to tell them sorry, but we couldn't take them.  When they carried on, I would tell them to go buy some bread and milk for their kids . . .
