10 Wardrobe Preventative Maintenance Tips

Your wardrobe is an investment.
Do you take care of it?

I don't like buying the same thing over and over-- I prefer to buy once, maintain, wear out, then repurchase.

Here is what I do to extend the life of my wardrobe:

  1. Buy classic styled clothes-- they don't go out of style
  2. Buy multiples so I don't over wear any one item-- you don't want to wear out clothes too quickly
  3. Hang up my trousers and jackets to keep the press
  4. Don't over dry clean-- over dry cleaning destroys the living fiber of wool go for press only unless truly dirty
  5. Get repairs made professionally rather than throwing away and buying new (unless repair is almost 70-80% of the cost of new item)
  6. Buy items that all mix and match well-- makes you look like you have more
  7. Avoid wearing clothing or shoes two days straight
  8. Buff your shoes after wearing them
  9. Use shoe trees in your shoes-- they help keep shape and remove damaging moisture
  10. Get shoes repaired before the major damage occurs (i.e.: holes in soles)

Take care of your wardrobe and it will take care of you . . .
