Before the Snow: One Last Chainsaw Weekend

I am getting out for one last big push on bucking logs this weekend before the snow comes.
I am working on next year's pile, but feel I still need to finish strong-- so I can spend a few weekends just splitting and stacking.

I actually like working with the chainsaw-- it makes short work of a big job.  I can only imagine what people went through before these tools were available.

An important note here is chainsaw safety.  The chainsaw is probably the most dangerous power tool there is due to the fact that so much of the business end is exposed.  The only other tool that is as dangerous in my opinion is the power nail gun.  As for chainsaws, here are a few safety tips:

  • Don't work tired
  • If you get tired-- quit
  • Always offset your cutting-- keep the saw to the right of your body
  • Don't drink before or during the work-- save it for later
  • Wear eye protection and gloves
  • Think and plan your cuts
  • Don't take your eyes off the moving chain
  • Take breaks to rest, refill fuel and lube, and tighten the chain

Be Safe!
