Where to Get Firewood?
My son recently asked where I get all this wood for firewood (he and his siblings have been doing quite a bit of stacking in recent months). I said good question, and even better answer:
- I get from the property from downed trees that haven't rotted
- I advertise for it at the supermarket with signs that I make
- People give it to me, because they know I want it and they don't
- My wife and I are always looking for piles curbside
But best of all, I get it all free . . . my only cost is processing it, which I actually like to do.

I too am an expert in obtaining free fire wood. I have about 10 years of fire wood that I accumulated based on an ad in the local trading paper last summer that ran for two weeks. It was advertised as a free service called Wood Rescue.
Learn about how I did it here: http://www.frugal-living-freedom.com/fire-wood.html
The fire wood is free except for the cost of hauling and cutting (and a $22 ad), and that's minimal when compared to what it saves you in home heating costs. I believe in knocking out utility costs, and a good source of wood heat gives a knock-out punch to fuel bills in the winter.

Outstanding! It really is amazing what you can get simply by asking or letting people know you can help them get rid of something they don't want. 10 years worth I am jealous! Here is another idea-- if you were suddenly short cash you could sell some of that wood . . . just like money in the bank!

That's exactly what I call it - money in the bank. Money kept in my bank instead of the Utility Bank and Trust.

I've been dragging my feet for years on buying a wood stove. I have fireplaces but they are smoky and unsafe so I have not used them in quite a long time.

You can get woodstoves that fit into fireplaces-- it is what we use in our house. I strongly recommend them-- these woodstoves are highly efficient and can really help offset your oil or other heating costs.
