The 80/20 Rule

Ever heard of the 80/20 Rule?
It basically says that 80% of the results or outputs you receive come from 20% of your efforts or inputs.  That also means that 20% of the results come from 80% of your efforts.

The trick of course is to capture the right 20% of your efforts (the one that gives you the 80% results).

I am a stickler not wasting time and effort, so when I think of my day here's what I try to capture:

  • I try to focus on the 20% of my clients and prospects that give me 80% of my business
  • I try to focus on the 20% of websurfing that gives me 80% of news and knowledge I need
  • I try to focus on the 20% of time with my kids that gives me (and them) 80% of the satisfaction

What 20% do you reach for?

I think of that last 20% as “polishing”. In creating something, the first 80% of time and effort go into roughing it out. Then you start polishing.
