Busting Your Monthly Nut
How much is your monthly nut? What are your bare bones expenses? Have you cut them to the bone?
Let's consider how to lower your expenses-- bust the monthly nut if you will. We will look at the broadest expense categories:
- Housing
If you own, you could rent part of it out or you could downsize
If you rent, you could rent something less expensive-- there is quite a bit of inventory out there now - Food
Eat in and at home (See my post Start Eating at Home and Start Eating Better)
Cut back
Buy on sale, in bulk, and with coupons (See my post Four Key Ways to Make the Most of Sunday Morning Grocery Coupons and Circulars) - Transportation
Drive less and more conservatively (See my post 9 Ways to Improve Your Gas Mileage)
Consolidate trips
Lower your insurance limits-- just don't go below your state's minimum
Raise your deductible
Do you really need that many vehicles? - Utilities
Eliminate your home phone and use the cellular
Go around and unplug unnecessary appliances and turn off lights
Change to CFLs (See my post Quick Tip: Conserving Energy and Saving Money)
Supplement your gas/oil with wood heat or efficient space heaters
Obvivously, all other expenses are very subject to cut backs . . .
What can you cut?
