Sunday Morning Bagels and Saving During the Week

Like bagels?  Here is an idea to save money during the week
-- buy some extra and freeze them.

If you like the occasional bagel for breakfast or lunch, you can save big by buying and freezing-- a baker's dozen (13) will run you around $7-8.  Compare that to the same 13 with butter or cream cheese purchased with your coffee (another added expense)-- you will probably shell out $20+ for the bagels.

Personally, I don't like the frozen bagels you can get at the supermarket-- they taste bad.  Get them fresh from a bagel shop.

Three important tips:
  1. Get the shop to pre-slice them for you (remember, when you use them they will be frozen)
  2. Put them in locking freezer bags ASAP to preserve the freshness
  3. Freeze them fast
What do I put on bagels?
  • Butter
  • Cream cheese
  • Jelly, Jam, preserves
  • Cheese-- American, Swiss, Muenster
  • Ham
  • Eggs
  • Lox (Smoked salmon)
  • Any sandwich idea
When it is time to use them either thaw them out or run them through the toaster (what I prefer to do)

Enjoy!
