Sunday Morning Bagels and Saving During the Week
Like bagels? Here is an idea to save money during the week-- buy some extra and freeze them.
If you like the occasional bagel for breakfast or lunch, you can save big by buying and freezing-- a baker's dozen (13) will run you around $7-8. Compare that to the same 13 with butter or cream cheese purchased with your coffee (another added expense)-- you will probably shell out $20+ for the bagels.
Personally, I don't like the frozen bagels you can get at the supermarket-- they taste bad. Get them fresh from a bagel shop.
Three important tips:
- Get the shop to pre-slice them for you (remember, when you use them they will be frozen)
- Put them in locking freezer bags ASAP to preserve the freshness
- Freeze them fast
What do I put on bagels?
- Butter
- Cream cheese
- Jelly, Jam, preserves
- Cheese-- American, Swiss, Muenster
- Ham
- Eggs
- Lox (Smoked salmon)
- Any sandwich idea
When it is time to use them either thaw them out or run them through the toaster (what I prefer to do)
Enjoy!
