Want a romantic dinner, but don't want to break the bank?  Create one at home.  When my wife was my girlfriend/fiancee, we would have our most romantic dinners at home.  We did this for a few reasons:

• Limited budget
• Low disappointment factor-- better quality food (See my post Start Eating at Home and Start Eating Better)
• No designated driver issues
• We listened to our music selections
• We enjoyed cooking together

We would set a table with the following (all available at Wal-Mart or Target for under $20):

• Cloth napkins and placemats
• Nice plates and flatware
• Wine and water glass
• Candles

Mix in quiet conversation with a nice meal (two 1 and 1/4 lb. lobsters are about $15) and it doesn't get better than that-- special occasions do happen at home too (See my post When Did Going Out to Dinner Go From Being a Special Event to Being a Way of Life?).

So feed the kids and get them off to bed or send them off to grandma and grandpa's house and make an evening of it!
