Frugality Defined

Frugality is hard to define.
I define it as getting as much value out of every dollar as I possibly can.  As a divorced father, my finances take a major hit due to after-tax financial redistribution, so I am forced to make due with less.

I look for "bang for my buck" as I truly understand the value of a hard earned, after tax dollar.  However, I tend to define frugality by what it isn't.  It isn't:

  • Junky
  • Dirty
  • Messy

Junky, dirty, and messy is not frugal-- it is just plain lazy.  I see houses that look like junk yards with tools, toys, and equipment left where they fall.  I have been in dirty and messy homes where I feel like I should take a shower after I leave.

Laziness and frugality don't mix.  Frugality requires a little work.

I will periodically discuss my definition of "Frugality" in my future posts.
