Polymaths Rejoice!
Frugality and self-sufficiency require many talents . . . polymaths usually have those talents or can and will develop them.
"Polymath" is the fancy word to describe a "Renaissance Man" which is a fancy phrase for an individual who has many interests, skills, and talents.
I have always been impressed with polymaths like Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin. Jefferson was an attorney, architect, inventor, musician, farmer, and statesman. Franklin was a printer, publisher, scientist, inventor, and statesman. I long ago decided these were role models to look up to and to try to emulate.
I have many interests and have developed skills and talents to match. I have become an above average cook, an accomplished vegetable gardener, an outdoorsman, a skilled carpenter and handyman in addition to being a financial professional. However, I still have a long way to go in my quest.
Learning and self improvement are very important to me-- they help me become more self-sufficient. Best of all, I believe it makes me a better father and spouse. An additional benefit is this approach to life is that it saves me money and makes me money.
Learn, grow, improve! It will save you money and improve the quality of your life.
