Start Eating at Home and Start Eating Better
Why better? Two reasons: First, you know what goes into what you are eating. Second, you can use better ingredients.
Don’t know about you, but I like knowing what I am eating. I like knowing the basic ingredients and the quality of those ingredients. I prefer fresh when possible—especially from my garden. I prefer to knowing how old something is before I eat it. That’s why I don’t order chicken salad or egg salad out—I prefer making my own at home.
When cooking at home you can use better ingredients—a nice steak ($10-12) or a couple of lobsters ($5.99 per pound on sale) prepared at home are more affordable than you think. When you eat out, you pay a significant markup for the privilege and many restaurants try to skimp on ingredients and portion sizes and you pay $30-40 a head.
My wife feels the same way as me, but is even more motivated by the disappointment factor at so many restaurants today. She mentions how disappointing the experience was and it tkes away from the special aspect of going out to eat. As I mentioned, some restaurants today skimp and it shows-- We don't like lackluster meals . . . at home that doesn't happen.
