Capture Your Dream Car
"Capture Your Dream Car"-- That was the title of some spam I received about a week or two ago. It got me thinking . . . what is my dream car?
Simply put, my dream car is one that is:
- Paid off
- Reliable
- Fuel efficient
That is my dream car come true!
Okay. okay-- if we are talking dreams . . . check out a 1965 427 Shelby Cobra.

I have a 2007 Mercury Montego – not even close to a dream car, but a very good deal because I bought it new for 40% off MSRP. It had hail damage which made the body look distressed but no effects at all on the inside, which is the part I use. I was particularly interested in this car over others on the same dealer’s lot full of damaged vehicles because it has side air bags, anti-lock brakes, traction control, and all wheel drive. Such features are interesting when you live as far north as I do. Anyway, I now follow a forum dedicated to this car and its siblings with other names (Ford 500, etc); and these days the people there are all hyped up about the 2010 model. But I ain’t, because even though my car lacks electronic stability control which I really want, getting that one new feature would plunge me back into the whole car financing and depreciation spiral.

40% off MSRP-- kudos to you! I love stories like that.
As for the cosmetics, that can be fixed or not. As you rightly point out, it is the inner workings that really matter.
Hang in there on the 2010 model, I think we have yet to see how motivated the car companies are to move product-- it could be very favorable for those who wait . . .
